FAMILY MEDICINE

Family Medicine physicians provide primary care to the whole family regardless of age or sex and serve as the frontline defense in the prevention, assessment and treatment of non-acute illnesses.  In essence they become the "gatekeepers" of a family's medical history and treatment.  They may refer their patients to specialists , as needed, but continues to coordinate their treatment in order to ensure that the patient receives a total continuum of care.
